Objective: To conduct market research and assess the technical and soft skills training needs within Jordan's artisanal industries sector. The assessment aimed to map key stakeholders, identify sector challenges, evaluate skill gaps, and propose strategic recommendations for enhancing community-based income generation, business sustainability, and employment opportunities in the sector.

Key Activities

  • Conducted a sector-wide market research, mapping artisanal producers and identifying potential income-generating opportunities.

  • Applied the Participatory Rapid Appraisal (PRA) methodology, engaging over 100 individuals through focus groups and interviews.

  • Mapped artisanal industries across Iraq Al Amir, Salt, and Wadi Mousa, identifying key producers and existing business models.

  • Assessed technical and vocational skills gaps, focusing on training needs for product development, quality control, business skills, and marketing.

  • Analyzed market access barriers, identifying challenges in product pricing, packaging, branding, and digital marketing.

  • Evaluated stakeholder involvement, including NGOs, government agencies, and business development service providers, and assessed their role in sector support.

  • Developed recommendations for skill enhancement programs, including mentorship initiatives and innovative training methodologies.

  • Outlined sector development strategies, proposing interventions for sustainable business practices, digital integration, and financial sustainability.

  • Identified successful artisanal business models, documenting best practices for community-based enterprises.

  • Compiled a comprehensive final report, providing actionable recommendations for improving the sector’s sustainability and growth.
