Labour Market Analysis in the Tourism Sector

Aug 2021 - Nov 2021

Objective: To analyze labor market conditions, growth potential, skill demands, labor trends, challenges, and required support in Jordan’s formal and informal tourism sectors. And assess private sector and stakeholder involvement in the sector’s institutional structure, particularly from an employment perspective.

Key Activities:

  • Conducted a comprehensive desk review of relevant literature on Jordan’s tourism sector to assess labor market conditions, growth potential, skills demand, challenges, and required support in both formal and informal sectors.

  • Analyzed the labor market dynamics, examining supply and demand trends from the perspectives of private (formal and informal), public, and supporting sectors.

  • Mapped key stakeholders involved in employment provision, identifying industry players, government agencies, training institutions, and support organizations.

  • Investigated sectoral occupations and professions, assessing current and future workforce needs based on new investments, national strategic plans, and emerging industry trends, considering COVID-19’s impact.

  • Identified top in-demand skills required by tourism employers and evaluated existing skill gaps in the workforce.

  • Prioritized training programs to address workforce needs, ensuring alignment with industry expectations and career development opportunities.

  • Highlighted top traditional and emerging (“trendy”) occupations, evaluating their relevance to market demands and future growth.

  • Developed sample career maps for the top 10 occupations, outlining progression pathways and skill requirements.
